The title for Isolatoes comes from a passage in Chapter 27 of Moby Dick: "They were nearly all Islanders on the Pequod, Isolatoes too, I call such, not acknowledging the common continent of men..." In Moby Dick, Melville explores what Bourriaud calls "the notion of multiplicity," embracing contradiction and fragmentation. I wanted to look at these ideas using various materials.
