CONCEPT: Overall this piece represents a visual transition of gloom to bloom. A smoky tinted veil of netting covers the dark left side, like the cosmic delusion of Maya in the Yoga Philosophy of life causing a blurring of our vision and making us believe doom is a reality. The right side panels are clear and the future is rich in promise.

ARTWORK CONSTRUCT:
DESIGN: This painting is made of free floating panels of muslin weight canvas with cut, shredded, and chopped edges. All the parts are treated classically with a coat of gesso ground and covered with pigment on both fronts and backs. The panels are “Tapestry Mounted” using brass brads along the top edge of a custom cut and prepared wood rod. There are keyhole lock mounts installed on the back of the rod for hanging the work.
PANELS: left to right as you face the work:
1. DOOM: Under a dark and confused sky are images of crows on a field of dying wheat (an homage to Van Gogh’s epic struggle of reality vs. “an eternity in its place above the world”). The backround shift of color from light at the top to dark at the bottom is an echo of the burned and shredded state of despair of mankind.
2. DAMMED: A bloody red and black and panel with an erratic heart beat and drops of blood represents the human aspect of the fight for survival when doom is at hand.
3. CROSS OVER: This center panel is the “silver lining” of life, with lunar and solar images in antique bronze and gold on a subtle silver back round.
4. NEW GROWTH: This panel is covered vibrant greens with ferns and yellow sprouts of growth reaching for the sun, representing new life coming from the darkness into the light.
5. HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL: On a dynamic and pastel colored surface are stenciled pearlescent multicolored lei blossoms and an arc of white hibiscus reaching to the sky. This is the future of the blooming mystery.
SOLAR FLASH/ECLIPSE: This halo of white light in the center of the work is based on the meditation of all life being one. We are part of the circle of life and are surrounded by love and light.
LAYERS:
1. FLOATING RIBBONS: These “ribbons” represent “chance”, like slim and colorful long shots of experience kicking life into doom and into bloom.
VEILS OF MAYA: Are sweeping over the doom then tying into the ribbons of hope forming a knot with the future. Doom and hope are intimately connected and cannot exist one without the other.. High vs. Low. Mountain vs. valley. Yin and Yang.

NOTE: This gloom to bloom work has been created in Hawaii. Hula is the dance of the islands. Hula is an inspiration, they dance the story of life happy or sad, either way.
